Child in the garbage
I was touched by the picture so much that
I wondered the emotions in the child.
For a moment I was in the sweltering heat and dirt,
tired, hungry and spent.
I wondered if the child thought .......
I will live... atleast another day
I will eat... atleast another morsel
sorry birdie, you are wasting your time
for I will live atleast today.
My mother is waiting on the other side
But why is her body shattered and torn?
Why are the vultures feasting on her?
why isn't she coming to me?
Mustn't look back I must keep moving on
Can still hear my Mommy say
"Keep moving on to the gates on the hem,
Vulture would follow
So never stay still Keep moving forward
and never look back
You must live Live another day.."
But why did we move out of our homes ?
Why did they burn down the fields?
Why did they poison the wells and the ponds ?
Why did they kill my father and brothers?
Birdie I know you will follow me
Wait till this last ounce of life leaves
But not today birdie
I will make you wait
For I will live for atleast today.
I must survive atleast today
I have to eat atleast one morsel
I promised her ... I promised her
but this seems a tough promise to keep.

A Dream House
'Anidam', the house of Aniyan and Anandam
This house is not merely a brick and mortar structure. The sweat and love are blend into them in building this house. The dream of owning a house in Pondicherry emerged in our minds as we landed here after the wedlock on 23rd August 1973. Like the birds when get the pair think of a nest for laying eggs, we started visualizing a house. Like the male bird taking up the lead in making the nest, I took the role of the architect. My heart and sole had gone into the entire planning and execution of this house. Dreaming all about a house started occupying most of my leisure time. Many contractions and demolitions took place in the mind before the actualization of this long cherished dream. Both of us had mentally and physically devoted to the utmost for the transition of the dream house to a reality. If the male bird had toiled for the making of the house the female bird has been continuously caring her best to keep it spick and span for the last quarter century.
We nested into the house with two smart children on 25th April 1983. The house was filled with love and affection, care and concern, happiness and joy. It was always bubbling with activities. Everyone was busy with reading or writing, cooking or serving, crying or scolding, mocking or laughing, singing or dancing. The atmosphere was always vibrant. Music and laughter over flow the boundaries often. The children grow big and got their wings strong. They flew out to make their living in greener pastures, repeating the history.
The second phase:
The pulsating ambiance in the house vanished into a suffocating silence. The devil started knocking the doors of idle minds for a workshop for him. To prevent its entry we found it necessary to fill the mind space with positive stuff. Thus mind management started occupying greater priority. Yoga, Meditation, Walking, Internet, Orkud, Blog, Sprit and Spiritualism started gaining incremental time slot. Nostalgia of the home village and the people there turned into an obsession. Resuming of making the retirement home at native got into the anvil. The male bird is once again occupied in planning and executing the second dream house. The female bird left alone at times, started talking to the walls and doors, plants and flowers, bids and animals to kill her silence. She is now eagerly waiting for the affectionate calls from her children and looking for the arrival of grandchildren to break her monotony.

ek shaare snow pei..
In pursuit of snow i travel,
but all i see in nothing but gravel,
the softness of ice is what i marvel,
don't know when my dreams would unravel.
WAAAH WAAH WAAH, KYA BAATH HAI...

Transcending Attachment to Love
In the common parlance the words attachment and love are synonymously used. But when we look very close we realize they don’t mean the same.
Attachment is self-centered and has stings attached to it. We are attached to many people because we have many reasons for getting attached. A daughter is more attached to her father because he never scolds her and all the more gets lot of toys and chocolates. One is attached to the other because the other is helpful, resourceful, jovial, concerned, dependable and so on. In all these cases one is attached to the other because of some personal reasons. One is more concerned about his/her happiness in all these cases. Attachment cease to exist when the conditions are not satisfied. Then desperation and anger will occupy the space occupied by the attachment earlier.
See this story: In the aquarium of a palace there was a tortoise. The young prince used to enjoy watching it swimming in the water. As days passed by he started spending a lot of time playing with it. One day the prince found it topsy-turvy, motionless and floating at the top and showed it to the king. The king realized that it is dead. But not to disappoint the prince over the death of his pet the King ordered for a royal funeral to be arranged for the dead tortoise. He ordered for the music band and decorations. The prince was carried away by the arrangements and got fully excited. But then the king found to his surprise the tortoise was really not dead and moving about in the aquarium. With a great sigh of relief he told the prince that the tortoise is alive, to make him happy. To the shock of the king, the price told, “you kill it, let us proceed with the funeral”..
Was the price attached to the tortoise, which entertained him? Or he loved the tortoise? No doubt he had no love. Love never pains the loved. But attachment some times paints, as the attached has to continue to live up to the expectations to maintain the attachment.
Love on the other hand is selfless and unconditional. When one is in love with the other he / she is more concerned about the happiness and welfare of the other, like most of the parents to their children. In love, one tries to identify himself / herself with the loved and there is no expectation of a reciprocal act from the other side. Therefore, there is no chance of desperation or anger.
A person may have attachment to many and love to a few. As the proportion of love to attachment increase in a person he gets transformed into a saint. Remember there is a rule of nature that whatever you give will come back to you from somewhere. So the more we love others the more others will love us. The easiest way to be happy is to try to make others happy.
