A Time to Rest

The time has come to sit back and rest,
Yet the mind refuses to stay at ease.
It races faster than in the past,
Weighing losses, measuring gains.

Dreams were many and filled with joy,
Yet some led paths that left me drained.
More time slipped away than was truly used,
With missed chances the most by far.

The road behind is winding and long,
With fuel burned in ample stores.
And so, the mind’s assessment runs,
Disturbing me in moments of rest.

Who am I to measure my life?
What scales would even serve me best?
As the mind offers no clear answers,
I choose instead a calm, quiet peace.
